Rain weather warning issued in Devon and Cornwall

Heavy rain forecast across Devon and Cornwall has led to a 19-hour weather warning being issued.

The Met Office said the warning would be in place from 14:00 BST on Friday until 09:00 on Saturday as a "prolonged spell of rain" moved across the two counties.

It said up to 75mm (2.95 inches) of rain had been forecast to fall over higher ground, especially around the Dartmoor area, and conditions would also be "quite windy".

Met Office bosses said flooding, interruption to power supplies and public transport service disruption could be expected in the warning area, which covered most of Cornwall along with parts of south, central, west and east Devon.

"Rain developing early Friday becomes heavier and more persistent later on Friday and persists into Saturday before easing from Saturday late morning," the Met Office said.
